چکیده

Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) is the term used to describe the transient narrowing of the lower airways that follows vigorous exercise.1,2 Although EIB most commonly occurs in individuals with clinically recognized asthma, this condition is also reported in school children, armed forces recruits and elite athletes without asthma. Patients typically present with respiratory symptoms that are related to vigorous exercise.3-

Mechanisms of bronchoconstriction from nonimmunologic environmental stimuli.

Athma is characterized by repeated episodes of bronchoconstriction, often triggered by environmental stimuli. Since much of the therapy of asthma is aimed at preventing these episodes of bronchoconstriction, understanding the mechanisms by which environmental stimuli cause bronchoconstriction has obvious clinical importance. This review will discuss the general mechanisms by which inhaled agent...

Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in elite long-distance runners in Brazil.

OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction among elite long-distance runners in Brazil and whether there is a difference in the training loads among athletes with and without exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study involving elite long-distance runners with neither current asthma symptoms nor a diagnosis of exercise-ind...

Cardiopulmonary exercise testing in children and adolescents with asthma who report symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.

Patients with asthma often report symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. We performed cardiopulmonary exercise testing to establish the cause of exercise limitation in patients with asthma, under treatment, who reported symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Ten of the 42 patients meeting criteria for inclusion in our study (24%) developed exercise-induced bronchoconstrict...
